Erika Zavaleta
Erika Zavaketa is a young Latina mother who debuts as an author with a
beautiful children’s story titled Star Light, Star Bright, What Else is Shining in the
Sky Tonight? This her first book, and also the first of a series titled “Trenty Boy
Collection,” is also illustrated by Zavaleta, who combines her talent to write with
her ability to paint.
Erika Zavaleta is a resident of Arizona who grew up in Northern California’s city
of San Jose. She enjoys hiking, traveling, and most importantly, spending time
with her son Trent, her main inspiration as a writer.
Writing a children’s book has been Zavaleta’s long-time dream and Star Light,
Star Bright, What Else is Shining in the Sky Tonight?” is also the result of her
love for reading. Having a child and having a story-time with him gave her the
push needed to pursue her dream. Her book is written in English and Spanish
because the author wants to encourage children, like her son to enjoy learning
more than one language. She would like to write a whole series of books for
children, and hopefully in the future, books for young adults as well.
The message to parents and teachers that will read her book is just to enjoy and
focus on the simple things around them that capture a child’s imagination and
curiosity. Zavaleta considers it amazing to be around children, since often she
finds that she loses touch with some of the little things in life that are beautiful,
and children so easily bring out the importance of whatever those little things
may be.
In an era of digital publication she thinks a book is an actual possession, much
like a favorite toy or blanket. She says that when a child reads a book, they
might develop an all-time favorite, and having a book is something that they can
hold on to and hopefully share with younger siblings, or even children of their
own.
Erika Zavaleta is currently working on her next stories of the series.
