Cultural Sensitivity Training
Cultural Sensitivity is a term used to describe an awareness and appreciation
of the multiple factors that may influence the values and perspectives of
individual families and children. Culturally sensitive practices are particularly
important to educators, community workers, and health care personnel, due to
the increasing number of minority-group children in the United States.

The
Hispanic Institute of Social Issues understands the need to be
consistent with the values and beliefs of some families and children. Educators,
community workers, and health care personnel are, therefore, challenged to
explore flexible and culturally sensitive approaches to working with families in
ways that can enhance effective communication, build trusting relationships,
and open the doors for important family involvement. Accordingly, HISI has
developed and successfully facilitated a Cultural Awareness Training to meet
theses challenges and needs.
